I've lost
my head, I've lost my nerve.
Can't even
remember where I put them.
And there
are some curves coming my way.
The road
is gettin' slippery.
This journey's
long, this night's been dark.
Can't even
recall where I have gone, but it's been hard.
And I don't
want it easy.
I just
don't wanna follow my own lead...no more.
Chorus
So take
the wheel, take me wherever you want.
Just lead
me home.
Yeah, take
the wheel, wherever you want now.
I am ready
to go.
Just be
my guide, my fuel, my lights, my steel,
my shine,
my wheels, my rubber to the road,
my off,
my on, my here, my gone, my song playing on the radio.
Be my map,
my mission, my cylinders hittin',
my air
condition, my caffeine buzz,
my peace,
my strength, and as I'm going on my way,
be my patient
love.
I try to
pick the best way but
this is
taking my feet one way
and my
soul wants to go to another place.
I've had
trouble hearing your voice
and trouble
steering my course.
Chorus
Yeah take
the wheel, take me wherever you want now.
I am ready
to go.
Oh, take
the wheel, come on and lead me home.
I am ready,
I am ready.
Just be
my guide, my fuel, my lights, my steel,
my shine,
my wheels, my rubber to the road,
my off,
my on, my here, my gone, my song playing on the radio.
Be my map,
my mission, my cylinders hittin',
my air
condition, my caffeine buzz,
my peace,
my strength, and as I'm going on my way,
be my patient
love.
Mitch:
Take
The Wheel happened in a hotel room and I think it was the last song
I wrote for the record. We had already gone in and rehearsed some
of the songs in the studio. We took the weekend off and I came back
with a couple more songs. This song just happened while I was watching
a football game and my team was getting stomped. At half time, I
thought well you know what, I am going to get something out of this game
even though my team is loosing. I picked up the guitar and stumbled
unto this guitar figure that ended up being Take The Wheel.

From
Mitch:
"This is
my prayer that as I travel I would trust the spirit to guide me and lead
me. It is my hope that I might be humble enough and contrite enough
to relinquish some of the control that I think is so important to hang
on to and so difficult to let go of. I long for Jesus to steer."
