broken the band reviewed

about this band:

Broken started with Wichita singer/songwriter
Jared Brown.  Jared's first CD "Clean Rain" was  released independently in the summer of 2002.
Produced by Michael Aukofer "Clean Rain"
features some of the first songs written by
Jared.  This year Jared decided to start Broken the band which plans to release their first album in the Fall of 2006.  Broken is Jared Brown -guitar and vocals / David Dibbern - Electric Guitar / Rob Farmer - Drums and Percussion /Troy Fischer - Bass / Bill Suchan - Keys / Julie
Calhoun - vocals.

About Jared Brown:

Originally from Oklahoma, Jared moved to Kansas with his family and graduated from Goddard High School in Goddard, KS (near Wichita). In 1992 he received a vocal music scholarship at Friends University. During his first week at Friends University he met Rich Mullins in his Concert Choir class. The next day Jared asked Rich to be in a vocal trio with himself and a friend, Travis Ross. They immediately began meeting after choir where they would sing and basically goof off. Jared and Travis performed several concerts with Rich. Jared remained close friends with Rich until his tragic death in 1997. Over the last several years Jared has had the opportunity to work on many recordings vocally, including Rich Mullins' "Liturgy, Legacy, and a Raggamuffin Band", Ryan Long's - "Cry for Me", Micheal Aukofer's "Appalachian Christmas Quartet" and finally his own "Clean Rain" Produced by Michael Aukofer. The album Clean Rain is the first group of songs written by Jared. Clean Rain also includes Rich Mullins' song "Hold Me Jesus" which was originally performed as a vocal trio by Rich Mullins, Jared Brown, and Travis Ross.

Benjamin Stecker

"Along the Way"

Indie Singer Songwriter
By C.W. Ross (reprint)

Benjamin Stecker is a talented independent Christian artist from London, Ontario Canada. He recently contacted me letting me know about his music and where I could download some acoustic versions of his songs. I would classify his style as simple but not simplistic. His music offers up crisp, clean, clear very well done acoustic guitar parts that ranged from soft to rousing in style.
Layered on top of those guitar parts were the very inviting vocals of Benjamin Stecker that brought each song to life. A lot of times those vocals are filled with an overflowing passion that lets you know that he’s living each song along with you as he performs them.
Songs that caught my attention included, “Already Sunday”, that deals with slowly backsliding and struggling with your faith, “Fly”, that deals with the need to share our faith with others, and the tug at your heart string songs, “Empty House”, and “Along the Way”, that tells the story of a young boy whose father leaves the family one day not even taking the time to say goodbye. That child grows up and then does the exact same thing to his family. This song along with several others reminded me of the late great singer songwriter Jim Croce.
Benjamin Stecker is a very talented artist and one you should be keeping your eyes on both now and in the future

Artist: Tom Frye

Hope is Alive reviewed

About this Artist:  As a singer/songwriter Tom Frye doesn't just entertain, he takes you on a spiritual journey as he plumbs the depth of his own faith-walk with Christ and shines a light on the Father-Child relationship of other seekers of God. His songs offer insight to the deeper things of Christianity that many of us are all too willing to overlook.

Reminiscent of Rich Mullins', not so much musically, but in the intricacies of well-strung words, Tom challenges you to deepen your roots and widen your horizons when dealing with God.   His songs are not feel-good pop ditties full of stuff and not much substance.   Instead, they are the written manifestation of a soul's cry to do more and be more for Christ.  His music will keep you looking upwards while looking inward.

Tom Frye is a singer/songwriter and worship leader from Indiana. Tom has released 4 CD's of his own, and a 5th CD early in 2006 with his Children. Tom's latest release "Hope is Alive" was produced by Michael Aukofer, and features 11 songs and special guest appearances by award winning artists, Phil Keaggy and Mitch McVicker. Tom is a World Vision artist associate www.worldvision.org and is also a ministry of Artists in Christian Testimony www.actinternational.org

Artist: Aaron Patton

Aaron Patton Music Reviewed

He has  been playing guitar for a lot of years, writing music for most of them. quote from the Artist: I want people to hear my songs so that they can either learn more about Jesus, find out who He is, or grow in their relationship with Him. I play most of my stuff on acoustic guitar, but the piano, hammered dulcimer, electric guitar, mandolin, and harmonica make it in there occasionally. Trumpet just made it into "Twenty 'Til Six" as well. I just love Jesus and love music and so it makes sense that I would do what I do.

He has been playing the piano for as long as he can remember because there's always been one around to play.  At age 12, he began playing the guitar and at age 13 was filling the role of his youth group's 'praise band'.  Since then, he has learned to play the hammered dulcimer, mandolin, harmonica, and several other instruments.

Aaron has been a worship leader since age 13 and finally, with a lot of coaxing and prayer, became a songwriter as well.  He surrendered his life to the ministry at age 14 and is pursuing that actively through his music and any other avenue available.  As of now, he writes and performs everything he records - no band members have been able to put up with him.
