Watch over Me Lyrics
Words and music by Mitch McVicker

Hope, is all I have
But I don't know If I've got much left
'Cause I still feel the scars
Inside of my heart
And It just gets so hard

Chorus
And I've heard
You take care of the birds
As you watch over all the matters of this world
So here I am
I am struggling, and oh how I need You
Watch over me

I wanna find
A place to rest
'Cause I am tired and there's an emptiness
I feel when I look back,
And I look into my past,
I can't seem to make that time pass

Chorus

And If hope is all I have
Well then I hope hope grows and fills the emptiness
So when I look back, I will look past my past
And only see forgiveness

Chorus

Oh here I am
I am struggling, oh, how I need You
Watch over me

From Mitch:
This song came about at a boy's home I visited, and played a concert at in Salina, KS. There were about forty boys there who were too young for prison but had committed some serious crimes. I began thinking about how much each of us is in need of God's guidance and how we each need to be protected from and rescued from ourselves. It seems that the only thing that separates terrible tragedy from wonderful goodness is God's grace. So this is my prayer that God would do for me what I don't have the courage to do for myself. It's my prayer that God would take me places I am too scared to go on my own.

From  an interview mitch was once asked about a favorite song he replied:

But if somebody pinned me down, and made me pick my favorite, I would pick a song called “Watch Over Me”.  That's a song that I actually wrote when we were playing at a boy's home in Kansas.  It was, you know, a place where kids that aren't old enough to go to prison but have committed some very serious offenses go and live and go to school.  They're graded, there's 6 different levels and this was the level 6.  So, there were some kids there that were pretty messed up. And they were just like me; they were just like Brad, just like Joe.  They were attention starved and they just wanted to talk with you.  They just wanted to hang out.  And I just got to thinking about how there's really not much other than the grace of God that separates me from them and how we are all in need of being taken care of by God.  And how it is so very hard for us to put our trust in the fact that God will.  And yet God has promised, you know, that God takes care of the flowers of the field and the birds of the air.  So why can't we just simply put our trust in the fact God will watch over us and take care of us? ~ Mitch McVicker
