McVicker to perform at Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (January 02, 2001)—Solo artist Mitch McVicker will perform in concert at Milligan College on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Seeger Chapel.McVicker won a 1999 Dove Award for Song of the Year for the song, “My Deliverer,” which he co-wrote with the late singer and songwriter Rich Mullins.

McVicker’s name and music are often associated with Mullins. The two had met as students at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and were close friends, roommates, and collaborated on their songwriting and performing. After surviving the September 1997 car wreck that killed Mullins, McVicker endured a slow rehabilitation that was painful in many ways.

“My eyes were opened to realize that there are things that last while most of what we regard as important will pass away,” said McVicker. “God’s love is stronger than anything else we will ever come up against.”

At the time of the accident, he and Mullins were wrapping up McVicker’s debut CD, which has since been released nationally by Rhythm House Records. Response has been positive, and McVicker’s reputation as an artist and performer continues to grow.

For the past year, McVicker has been working on his second solo album, and admits that much of his emotional energy has been poured into the new material.

“I’ve tried to lose myself in working on this album,” McVicker told Christian Single Magazine in June 2000. “The ironic thing is that I didn’t know what some of these songs were about when I wrote them, and now I do. That’s been a painful eye-opener.”

McVicker’s music and message appeal to young and old alike. Tickets are available in advance from the Milligan College Bookstore for $5 each or $7 at the door. To charge by phone, call 423-461-8733.

“I feel very, very fortunate and blessed to do this Christian musician thing,” said McVicker. “I get to be out communicating with people, rubbing shoulders with people, and doing my best to point them toward Jesus. I don’t take that lightly at all.”
